On the Internet, I found several examples of Excel thermometer charts. In all the examples I could find, people use SmartArt i.e. shapes to create the ball of the thermometer. The more thermometers you then create, the more laborious. Moreover, the SmartArt ball is independent of the graph. Once you move the graph or width changes, the ball is not coming with it. In my example, I created ​​the ball using a line chart with markers . The marker you then change into a ball. The size of this ball you can increase. And it's done. Pretty easy to create: Crystal Reports line chart with banded background, indicating good, average and bad: For this example I used the noordenwind database, the Dutch equivalent of the Northwind database. For the bands I used three formula fields: Good: 50000 Bad: 30000 Average: 40000 I created a stacked bar chart based on the three formula fields. The line chart presents the total sales volume per customer, limited to the country Germany. At a course I got the question about a line in a chart. Isn't it possible to get a line from one side of the other? He was talking about the lower line which is an ordinary line chart. So I used some tricks to change it. Now the upper line is like he asked. Onderstaande Excel grafiek laat zien hoe langzaam maar zeker de gasvoorraad van gasveld Slochteren afneemt. Met behulp van de schuifbalk kunnen we in deze grafiek dat effect ook laten zien. Op internet vinden we diverse Excel voorbeelden en sjablonen van zogenaamde thermometer grafieken. In alle voorbeelden die ik kon vinden, wordt er gebruik gemaakt van SmartArt om de bol van de thermometer te maken. Als je dan meer thermometers naast elkaar maakt, wordt het bewerkelijker. Bovendien staat de SmartArt bol los van de grafiek. Zodra je de grafiek verplaatst of de breedte verandert, gaat de bol niet mee. In mijn voorbeeld heb ik de bol gemaakt met behulp van een lijngrafiek met markeringen. Van de markering kun je dan een bol maken. Deze bol kun je opblazen. En klaar is kees. Je kunt dan probleemloos het aantal thermometers opvoeren en de grafiek groter en kleiner maken. Hoe maken we deze grafiek? §   Neem vanaf rij 32 de bovenstaande gegevens over of open het blad Thermometer . §   Selecteer de rij lijn met alle nulpunten. §   Kies Invoegen Þ Lijn Þ Lijn met gegevensmarkering . ...

In Excel kun je - vaak met het nodige kunst- en vliegwerk - prachtige grafieken maken. Het volgende voorbeeld heb ik gemaakt aan de hand van een voorbeeld uit dagblad Trouw van 15 januari. Belangrijkste trucs zijn hier: Reeks koppelen aan secundaire as. Gestapelde staafgrafiek waarbij je de tussenstukken ontkleurt. Tienpuntschaal suggereren met behulp van labels in plaats van echte horizontale as.
